The truth is that thousands of people go online every day to make money but most of them fail miserably because they either believe one or all of the six Internet Marketing Myths. All of them have a grain of salt in them, as you’ll discover below.
Myth #1: Marketing via the Internet is simple
I think this is one of the biggest myths of all, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you horse hockey. Internet marketing is hard, takes time and effort. The Internet is comparatively easier to manage compared to brick and mortar in that there are no inventory to maintain, no shipping costs, no sales staff, and no overhead, but still a lot of work has to be done.
Myth #2: Making money online is possible for anyone
There is no truth to this, folks. Internet marketing won’t work unless someone gets up off their lazy boy recliner and reads everything they can about it, and then puts it into action. NOTHING IS DONE, NOTHING IS MADE.
Myth #3: The Internet can make you rich quickly!
Many newbie internet marketers, including myself, fall into this trap when they begin, so why is it so common? It may sound easy to chase “get rich quick schemes,” but I can tell you from experience that it is a WASTE of time, money, and energy. If you want to change things, don’t expect them to happen overnight; instead, do some research and discover what people really want and need, then give those things to them, including a sense of reality.
Myth #4: Doing business online is free
I believe this myth and it wasn’t true when I first got into internet marketing, and it isn’t true now either. The start-up and maintenance costs of an internet business are relatively low when compared to opening a coffee shop or gift shop downtown Los Angeles. The only things you have to pay for once your domain is set up are internet connection, advertising, and ongoing educational opportunities. Making money by selling free stuff isn’t possible. All right, folks! To make money, you need money.
Myth #5: Starting an internet business is too late
There are so many competitions that it is too late now, so I should just pack my bags and go home, the internet is too complicated, etc. It is what internet marketers would love to hear. What’s the reason? They will make more money if they have fewer competitors.
You can start a business on the internet at any time, no matter how late it is. I strongly believe that the internet will not disappear anytime soon, and so should you. You can see the number of people who shop every year in the statistics Increasingly, people are shopping online, spending money online, and going online is on the rise.
Myth #6: All the talk about BIG money is just hyperbole.
Several times you’ve heard me say, “it takes money to make money?”. That’s true, although you’ll have a tough time finding experienced internet marketers who are willing to disclose how much their advertising and promotion costs. You have to dig deeper into every hype you read sometimes to find out what’s real. People who make money online also spend a lot of money on advertising, tools, resources, and knowledge about how to make money.
Taking the necessary steps will help you make ‘big money’ happen. There is a waiting period. The idea of making ‘big money’ will not happen to you despite your criticizing, being skeptical, and being certain that it won’t happen. Put together a business plan that includes a financial analysis and a sound business strategy. All the information you need can be found at your local Chamber of Commerce.
It doesn’t matter whether you think you’ll succeed or not, you’ll be right either way.
In conclusion, you may have heard people talk about how easy it is to make a fortune on the internet but the truth is that some of these stories are neither outrageous nor unrealistic, but they just don’t happen overnight. Having a game plan, staying focused, and finding what you love to do will help you find the right opportunity to achieve all your dreams.
